How to Install Lets Encrypt SSL Certificate in Plesk?

Let’s Encrypt is a free, automated, open certificate authority offering SSL/TLS certificates for enabling HTTPS websites. Installing Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates in Plesk is quite a simple process.

Steps to Install Let’s Encrypt SSL Certificate in Plesk

➔ Login to Plesk by entering your username and password.

➔ Once you log in, locate and click on the ‘Websites & Domains’ option in the left menu.

➔ You will see a list of domains; select the domain by clicking on it where you want to install the Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate.

➔ Now, you have to navigate to the ‘Security’ section.

➔ In that, click on ‘SSL/TLS Certificates’

➔ A new page will open. At the bottom, you have to click on ‘Install a free basic certificate provided by Let’s Encrypt’ under ‘More options’

➔ After clicking, a page will appear with a few options, and you have to select the required options for the certificate to be issued.

❖ Enter the valid email address you want to use for receiving important notifications & warnings. 

❖ You have to select the following checkboxes:

  • Secure the domain name

*Note: If you didn’t find the ‘Secure the domain name’ option in your Plesk panel, In that case, you have to contact your hosting provider. From their admin panel, they will configure the SSL certificate option & after that, you will see this option in your panel.

  • Include a ‘WWW’ subdomain for the domain & each selected alias.
  • Secure webmail on this domain
  • Assign the certificate to the mail domain

➔ Once all is done, click the ‘Get it free’ button next to Let’s Encrypt, and Plesk will automatically generate and install the SSL certificate for your domain.

Once the installation is complete, you will receive a confirmation message indicating the successful installation of the SSL certificate.

➔ After installing the SSL, verifying its installation and functionality is necessary. For this, you have to: 

❖ Visit your website using the (https://) prefix (e.g., https://example.com) to ensure the SSL certificate works correctly.

❖ There are various online SSL checker tools, and you can use any of those tools to verify the SSL certificate installation and its validity.

*Note: Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates have a validity period of 90 days & will be automatically renewed after that specific period.
