How to Create an FTP Account in the Plesk Panel?

FTP accounts offer a convenient way for web developers, designers, and content managers to transfer files between their local computers and web servers. With that, they can upload files to their website, download files from the server, and manage their website’s content.

This detailed guide will walk you through the simple steps of creating an FTP account in the Plesk control panel.

Steps to Create an FTP Account in Plesk

➔ Login to the Plesk panel by entering your username & password.

➔ On the left-hand side, Navigate to the ‘Websites & Domains’ tab

➔ After that, click on ‘FTP’, which will take you to the FTP management page.

➔ On the FTP Access page, click on the ‘Add FTP Account’ button

➔ To add the FTP account, enter the following details as given:

To add the FTP account,

♦ FTP Account Username: You have to enter the username for the FTP account, which will be used to log in to the FTP server.

♦ Home Directory: You have to specify the directory or path that the FTP account will have access to.

♦ FTP Password: Setup a strong password for your FTP account.

♦ Permissions. There are two kinds of permissions: 

  • Read Permission: allows downloading files only 
  • Write Permission allows uploading files only. 
  • Read and Write Permission: If you select both the checkboxes, it allows both uploading and downloading files.

➔ Once you have filled in all the details, just click on the ‘OK’ button

That’s it; your FTP account has been created!

➔ Once the FTP account has been created, you will see it listed on the FTP Access page. You can verify the details of your newly created FTP account, including the username, home directory, and permissions.

To ensure that your FTP account is working correctly, you can connect to your server using an FTP client such as FileZilla or WinSCP by entering the FTP server’s hostname, username, and password you created for the FTP account.
